Alice Cooper's Theatre of Death show was a splendid spectacle in our old and grand Palais Theatre in St Kilda, the costumes, the lights, the deaths, the classic songs....School's Out, Poison, Only Women Bleed and Billion Dollar Baby featured, among others...
I have to add a song here not featured in his show the other night, but another classic filmed long ago....Steven..
It was all pretty new to me not having followed Alice closely, only some MTV videos now and then, great entertainment on stage...sword play, hanging, guillotine, death by sword box, straight jacket large needle nuthouse with sexy nurse, baby beheading, and more, gothy gore galore!!
After purchasing my tickets only days before the event (on EBay) for this sold out fest, my wristband (thankfully) arrived in the mail just in time!
Golden Plains 2009 was awesome, all ages (OK, mostly 20s and 30s), fab costumes (mostly in the crowd), 2 days and nights of music and no sleep ('cause if the stage wasn't cranking, someone's campsite was), faves were Black Mountain, Mogwai, The Church and Gary Newman...not usually the kind of music I'd listen to, but the vibe of the fest and the country surrounds (on a farm) and fab weather made it so much more fantastic...I'd never been to a festival with such a polite crowd either, even close to the front there was a polite space around each person, even a polite circle of crowd around a couple of bods that were so drunk they couldn't stand so were splayed out on the ground around their esky (chilly bin for NZers), but were OK apart from that, first aiders on hand checked.
Got to love a fest where you can have a hot shower in the morning (3 mins for $2 AUD), get an egg and bacon sandwich and coffee for $5 AUD, go back to bed for 4 hours then start seeing live bands from the early afternoon to the wee hours of the morning, and people are getting around at all hours of the day in sequins, feathers and other costumery...some brought their own couches, hammocks, bars with kegs, props on poles and more...
There are heaps of photostreams on Flickr with great shots from people with cameras and photo talent much better than mine Aunty Meredith for one (examples below)....
Audio: Share a song you could listen to all day on repeat.
RMF - When 15 year olds get bored in their bedroom...he's starting to sing now too...sort of! He's getting pretty OK at guitar too, Daddy D got him a VOX 50W amp for Xmas, sounds incredible, loud and good, the valve warmth mixed with digital tech, relatively cheap to buy and great sound (will defo annoy the neighbours and do for small gigs, or could mike it up to a PA for larger ones), want one myself now! Programming his own drums like a good little control freak (who needs to deal with drummers, right?). Look forward to him recording some tracks with the new VOX amp. He was testing the amp out in the guitar store and about 3 music store guys came over when he was playing the Ren & Stimpy theme, guess they don't hear that in there too often?
D Junior's friend Nicky Boy Blues.... is on another level...in the kind of way that Kool Keith is maybe!?!
D senior - he started it, getting D junior listening to Parliament and Black Sabbath...in his The Charleston Party incarnation, and then later, Greystadium.

Voodoo Chile....Jimi Hendrix, Electric Ladyland album...
"Well, Im a voodoo chile
Lord Im a voodoo chileWell, the night I was born
Lord I swear the moon turned a fire red
The night I was born
I swear the moon turned a fire red
Well my poor mother cried out lord, the gypsy was right!
And I seen her fell down right dead
(have mercy)Well, mountain lions found me there waitin
And set me on a eagles back
Well, mountain lions found me there,
And set me on a eagles wing
(its the eagles wing, baby, what did I say)
He took me past to the outskirts of infinity,
And when he brought me back,
He gave me a venus witchs ring
Hey!
And he said fly on, fly on
Because Im a voodoo chile, baby, voodoo chile
Hey!Well, I make love to you,
And lord knows youll feel no pain
Say, I make love to you in your sleep,
And lord knows you felt no pain
(have mercy)
cause Im a million miles away
And at the same time Im right here in your picture frame
(yeah! what did I say now)
cause Im a voodoo chile
Lord knows Im a voodoo chileWell my arrows are made of desire
From far away as jupiters sulphur mines
Say my arrows are made of desire, desire
From far away as jupiters sulphur mines
(way down by the methabe sea, yeah)
I have a humming bird and it hums so loud,
You think you were losing your mind, hmmm...Well I float in liquid gardens
And arizona new red sand
(yeah)
I float in liquid gardens
Way down in arizona red sandWell, I taste the honey from a flower named blue,
Way down in california
And the n new york drowns as we hold handscause Im a voodoo chile
Lord knows Im a voodoo chile
Yeah!"
And an old Sir Mix-A-Lot song, but not the original...the cover version by Richard Cheese (becoming Vegas lounge singer style)...."Baby Got Back"
